Minor refillable leather passport-sized notebook

$45.00

This is how I travel with my passport, sandwiched in this dude so that I can write down notes as needed! This mini passport-sized journal features red elastic that wraps around the flaps to keep the journal closed. The underside of the leather has been rubbed with beeswax to smooth down the grain. The edges have been dyed red and burnished, otherwise there is no dye on the journal, just the natural color from tannins from the vegetable tanning process. Note that are hide blemishes and slight dye blemishes on the journal. Every journal comes with 1 dot-grid notebooks (60 pages, including front and back) as well as zip up pocket and cardholder insert. There is space reserved for a passport book, should you choose to use this journal that way!

There is an “SN” logo stamp on the backside of these pieces. This leather series is named after all the things I considered naming my dog, but didn’t.

Size: approx 4″x 5.5″ (inches)
Customizable: Do you want to get a name or initials stamped on these? Please leave me a note at check out or email me after placing your order!

Re: the leather material

These journals are made with full-grain leather, which is less processed and leaves the entire — aka full — grain of the hide intact. Journals will include natural scarring and blemishes (which you can see in the pictures!). Full grain leather is porous (but very durable). It absorbs moisture and oil and, over time, will develop a pretty patina (darker, shinier) that looks better the longer the journal ages.

Re: the leather tannage

These journals are made from vegetable tanned leather. (Tanning the process in which cowhide becomes leather.) This type of tanning is called vegetable it uses natural materials in the tanning process, like tree bark. Veg tanning is an old-school method of tanning, and the method has been around for centuries.

Re: the color

These journals have not been dyed (by me!). The feature the beauty of the vegetable tanning process. Don’t fall in love with the current colors though! This leather will inevitable change color over time as it continues to be exposed to light, the oils from your hands, and the adventures they will hopefully go on.

Re: cutting and stitching

These journals are hand-cut and also hand-burnished, not machined. Because of this, there is often lack of uniformity on the journals. 😀 Enjoy!
